There is no single “best” skincare routine. The right routine depends on your skin type — and using the wrong products is the most common reason skincare “doesn’t work”. A heavy cream that saves dry skin will break out oily skin. A strong acne serum that clears oily skin will burn sensitive skin.

This guide helps you find your skin type, then gives you a simple routine for it — with real products and real prices from Beautifly Shop.

First: what is your skin type?

Wash your face with a gentle cleanser, pat it dry, and wait one hour without putting anything on it. Then look in the mirror:

What you see after 1 hourYour skin type
Shine all over the face, especially the T-zoneOily
Tight, sometimes flaky or roughDry
Shiny T-zone, normal or dry cheeksCombination
Redness, itching or stinging easilySensitive
Comfortable, no shine, no tightnessNormal (use the combination routine, lighter)

If you are still unsure, start with the gentle products in the sensitive routine — they suit almost everyone.

The routine, in order

Morning and night follow the same order. Use less in the morning, more at night.

  1. Cleanser — removes dirt, oil and sunscreen
  2. Toner (optional) — only if your skin needs it; never compulsory
  3. Serum — the treatment step (one serum at a time is enough)
  4. Moisturiser — locks everything in
  5. Sunscreen (morning only) — the most important step of all

You do not need 10 products. Four steps done every day beat ten steps done once a week.

Oily skin

Goal: control shine and clogged pores without drying the skin out. Over-drying makes oily skin produce more oil.

CleanserGel or foam cleanserEstée Lauder Perfectly Clean Foam Cleanser, 30ml — ৳650
SerumBHA / pore care, 2–3 nights a weekGlow Recipe Strawberry BHA Pore Smooth Blur Drops, 30ml — ৳2,990
MoisturiserLight lotion, not a heavy creamCeraVe Moisturising Lotion, 88ml — ৳990
Sunscreen (AM)Lightweight, non-greasySOME BY MI V10 Hyal Air Fit Sunscreen SPF50, 5ml — ৳350

Avoid: heavy creams, coconut-oil products, and scrubbing your face hard. Scrubbing does not remove oil — it irritates the skin.

Dry skin

Goal: add water first, then lock it in with a cream. Dry skin needs hydration and moisture.

StepWhat to useExample (Beautifly price, 7 Nov 2026)
CleanserCreamy, hydrating cleanser — never a foaming one that squeaksCeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, 236ml — ৳1,990 · or Estée Lauder Soft Clean, 30ml — ৳650

Tip: apply moisturiser while the skin is still slightly damp after cleansing — it locks in far more water that way.

Combination skin

Goal: treat the oily T-zone and the dry cheeks differently — one routine, two zones.

Tip: you can use the BHA serum from the oily routine just on the T-zone, 2 nights a week — not on the cheeks.

Sensitive skin

Goal: fewer products, gentler formulas, and no strong actives until the skin barrier is calm.

StepWhat to useExample (Beautifly price, 7 Nov 2026)
CleanserFragrance-free, gentle cleanserCetaphil Nourishing Oil-to-Foam Cleanser, 30ml — ৳550 · or CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, 236ml — ৳1,990
SerumSoothing serum only — no acids, no retinol to startShiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Serum, 10ml — ৳850
MoisturiserSimple, fragrance-free lotionCeraVe Moisturising Lotion, 88ml — ৳990
Sunscreen (AM)Gentle sunscreen; patch-test firstSupergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 50, 10ml — ৳450

Rules for sensitive skin: patch-test every new product on your jawline for 2–3 days before using it on the full face. Introduce only one new product at a time, and wait a week before adding another. Skip the glycolic-acid toner below entirely until your skin is calm.

About toners — do you need one?

Most people do not. A toner is optional. If you use one, use it after cleansing and before serum — and use exfoliating toners (like The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toner, 240ml — ৳2,650) only 2–3 nights a week, never daily, and never on sensitive or sunburnt skin. Always use sunscreen the next morning after an acid toner.

A budget starter routine (under ৳2,000)

If you are starting skincare for the first time, you only need three products:

ProductPrice
Cetaphil Nourishing Oil-to-Foam Cleanser, 30ml৳550
CeraVe Moisturising Lotion, 88ml৳990
SOME BY MI V10 Hyal Air Fit Sunscreen SPF50, 5ml৳350
Total৳1,890

Use the cleanser and moisturiser morning and night, and the sunscreen every morning. Add a serum only after 2–3 weeks, when your skin is used to the basics.

5 mistakes that ruin a routine

  1. Skipping sunscreen. No serum can undo sun damage. Sunscreen is the one step you never skip — even on cloudy days, even indoors near a window.
  2. Using too many actives at once. Vitamin C + retinol + glycolic acid on the same night will irritate almost any skin. One active at a time.
  3. Switching products every week. Skin needs 4–6 weeks to show a result. Changing products constantly means you never learn what works.
  4. Scrubbing every day. Physical scrubs and daily acids damage the skin barrier. Exfoliate 2–3 times a week at most.
  5. Buying by price alone. The cheapest product is not the best value if it irritates your skin — and a ৳250 “CeraVe” is not CeraVe at all. Read: How to Spot Fake Makeup in Bangladesh.

Frequently asked questions

How long before I see results?

Hydration improves in days. Breakouts and dark spots need 4–6 weeks of consistent use. If nothing changes after 6 weeks, the product is not right for you.

Can I mix brands?

Yes — cleanser from one brand, serum from another is completely fine. What matters is the ingredients and your skin type, not matching the brand.

Do I need a toner?

No. Toner is optional. If your skin feels fine without one, skip it and spend the money on a better serum or sunscreen.

Is sunscreen needed in winter / on cloudy days?

Yes. UV rays pass through clouds. In Bangladesh the UV level stays high all year — sunscreen is a daily step, not a summer step.

I have acne — which routine should I follow?

Start with the oily-skin routine, and use the BHA serum only 2–3 nights a week. If acne is severe, painful or leaving scars, see a dermatologist — no shop product replaces medical treatment.

Are these products original?

Yes. Beautifly imports directly from the USA. Every product’s batch code and expiry are checked before packing, and sealed products can be returned within 3 days.
